I can’t believe I haven’t posted this news yet… because really… I am soooo excited about this camera. I know LaTricia is dying to play around with it, but she has so patiently been waiting for me to offer. I just can’t quite let go of it… but soon, I will share!
Two weeks ago I walked into Photomark to pick up my Canon 5D from the repair shop and casually asked if they had any of the new Canon 5D Mark IIs available. I have asked this question periodically for months now, always to be told, SOLD OUT. Well, this day, they had one, and I walked out with my newly repaired 5D and the NEW 5D Mark II. Talk about impulsive shopping! (As a side note to my wonderful husband (aka THE CPA) I called to find out if I had enough $$$ in my account to cover this impulse. He quickly replied, go ahead… I have been pulling money aside because I knew you were going to want to buy it sooner rather than later! Ahhhh… I’m sooooo grateful to have such a wonderful husband and someone that takes care of me and my business so I don’t have to think about those things!)
Anyway, I had buyer’s remorse for about 30 minutes on the way home… If you know me, my idea of shopping is with the extra 20% coupons on a Kohl’s super sale. But I haven’t regretted it one bit!
For those technical and detail nuts out there… here’s the basics of the camera (straight from Canon’s website):
The EOS 5D Mark II has a stunning 21.1-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor with DIGIC 4 Image Processor, a vast ISO Range of 100-6400 (expandable to ISO L: 50, H1: 12800 and H2: 25600), plus EOS technologies like Auto Lighting Optimizer and Peripheral Illumination Correction. It supports Live View shooting, Live View HD videos, and more. It can shoot up to 3.9 fps, has 9 AF points plus 6 AF assist points, a new 98% coverage viewfinder, a 3.0-inch Clear View LCD (920,000 dots/VGA) and a rugged build. Full-frame shooters rejoice!
So far, I’m in LOVE. Honestly, the main reason I wanted this camera was the ISO range… I’ve really wanted to improve on my available light photography during getting ready and reception images at weddings, but even with the fastest lenses, you are limited to the ISO range of the camera…. and on my ID Mark II and the old 5D, moving up to the higher ISO range created a lot of noise (digital “grain”).
I have shot 3 weddings so far with this camera and will post images soon… but I just had to share a few shots from our family outting to the RR Park last night… these were shot at ISO 5000! I’m loving how clean these images are!
