More Charity Give-Aways…

Here’s a blog entry from Jen on our Spring for Charity blog:

I’ve talked to so many great people regarding the upcoming Spring Festival and am so excited at the great response we have gotten to our event! So far we are booked almost solid for sessions between 9:00 - 3pm which is longer than we originally planned. We are still taking a few more sessions and trying to accommodate as many people as possible, so PLEASE if you haven’t called to schedule with me…do so now! I don’t want to have to turn people away but we do have to limit the number of sessions we can take.
Also, Little Scholars Academy and David Goron of Professional Martial Arts Instruction have generously offered an additional incentive for those who have booked sessions for the charity event. David will be doing a free 45 minute Safety Class for kids. David is a 3rd Degree Black Belt and teaches a very hands on class to help kids understand and respond if ever in a dangerous situation. I’ve been told this is a great class in which the kids practice what they are being taught and even learn how to scream or say NO! and when it is appropriate. Anyone who is booking a session will be invited to bring their kids the following Saturday, March 28th at 10:00am for this class.
Thanks for everyone’s enthusiasm and support, we are so grateful!

Models in Miami

“I’m super excited” as my 3-year old says to me about a 7-day cruise my husband and I will be taking this May for our 10th Anniversary!  Wow… 10 years, really?  Honestly don’t know where the time goes!!!

I will be writing more about the cruise as we get closer, but I really wanted to put out a message in search for a beautiful bride to be my model.  Or a beautiful couple that would like some amazing bridal images or post wedding images.  I prefer to work with a “real” couple rather than models.  It’s just a chemistry thing…

I have been wanting to shoot at Vizcaya Gardens and Museum and so excited that I will be in Miami for a full day before our cruise leaves.  So, if you are in Miami, or would like to be in Miami on May 15th, please email me at marnee@marriottphoto.com or leave a comment here.  In exchange for modeling for me, I will give you a CD of 15 fully retouched, high resolution images.  ($1500 value)!

Wow…

So just when I thought I was finally “getting it”… you know… finally dedicating the time to organize a charity event like I have wanted to for the past several years, well, that’s when I realized, I still have a long way to go!

Putting together this charity event has been such a wonderful experience.  Jen and I have spent HOURS pouring over the details and really trying hard to focus on our goal… to give back the community - particularly children in need.

I never really expected anyone else to be as excited about the charity as we were.  I mean… how many solicitation calls a month do we get to donate to…. blah blah blah… I know they are all good causes… and I know that we would all love to give endlessly.  But let’s be honest… we’ve got to take care of our own families too!

So, needless to say, I am so grateful and impressed at the positive response we have received for SPRING FOR CHARITY. I suppose the super cute baby chics (yes, that is redundant, but go with me OK…), spring clothes shopping, and photography helps promote such a worthy cause.

But today… wow… today I was blown away by one mom’s comment.

Let me back up… most of the responses I have received go something like this:

“Marnee… cute pictures.  Wow… that is such a great idea!  I love Parker holding that baby chic (see, I’m not the only one that says that).  So, what’s this all about?  Oh, charity?  That’s nice you are doing that.  So, what do I get for the $75?”

Cool… huh.  Nothing wrong with that at all… but today… I heard:

“I’m so glad to see that you would take the time and effort to help raise money to support such an overlooked group of children in our community.  I would love to be able to be involved.  What can I do to help?  How can I donate?  The photos are such a great bonus!  What a great way to open up an important conversation with our kids about charity.”

I don’t know why that was so powerful today.  But somehow it was one of those WOW moments… one of those moments that I thought - she’s got it right… I NEVER EVEN THOUGHT ABOUT IT LIKE THAT!  I’ve been so busy planning, organizing, and even photographing my kids for the marketing pieces… that I haven’t taken the time to explain to them what this is for.  I have totally missed the teaching experience!

And not only did I miss that… I just love her unselfish response… she wasn’t concerned about what she got, but how she could give!  Oh… now I just have one more thing to add to my list of “things to improve to become a better mom, business owner, wife, etc. etc.”

I don’t even think this mom reads my blog, but thank you!  Thank you for reminding me what this is all about!  Sometimes we just get caught up in the “to-do’s” and “what do we get out of it” that we forget what is really important.

Jen — Seriously, SO TRUE!! That is awesome. Whoever this person is, she's hired =) It's been so great to see so many people respond and get excited about the charity and I agree, what a great opportunity for us to sit down and teach the kids. I'm totally going to do that. And honestly, what I'm most excited about is when we total up our efforts and can forward the funds to the Crisis Center where it will help kids that really have no voice and can't help themselves! Thanks for teaming with me on this...and thanks for sharing this!   ( March 6, 2009 @ 1:36 am )

Anne — That's fantastic! I love hearing that you are getting such great responses. The Crisis Center does deserve all of this and so much more. Its wonderful that you and Jen picked such a great charity. They are near and dear to my heart for all of the time I spent with the kids at the Center over the years during high school. And it is a great organization to use to teach your kids since they may be able to identify with children at the Center who are their own age but just aren't as lucky as they are. Great job ladies!   ( March 8, 2009 @ 1:06 am )

Donnelly Family at DC Market Street

I photographed Ella when she was just 1.  Now she is 3 1/2 and more than willing to show little sister Presley how to be a supermodel!

Thanks Donnelly Family!  You’ve got some BEAUTIFUL girls… and probably one of the EASIEST sessions with a 1 and 3 1/2 year old!  Great job girls… you were amazing.
