Newborn Photo Session - Thalia

I am loving this name… although I totally got it wrong when mom first told me over the phone… sorry about that!  And I am loving all of the hair this little girl has.

She was just 5 days old - perfect age for her first modeling gig.  I think she did pretty well, don’t you think?

I love the random smiles newborns give while they are dreaming.  Must have been a really good dream there in daddy’s arms.

Thalia was a week over her due date and wow… what a difference that makes!  She is one strong little girl.  I think I tried 4 or 5 times to wrap her up nice and tight and she kept pulling those cute little arms out and stretching out the legs as far as she could!  I guess she was done being confined!  Mom said she they saw her sucking her thumb in the ultrasound pictures… how cool is that?

I think this is one of my very favorite mom/newborn shots.  It just makes me smile.

And on a totally different note… leave me some comments… I’m feeling really neglected here.  I see you reading my blog, but am I not posting anything interesting lately?  What do you think of the images?  Send some love to Thalia if you are enjoying them…

I haven’t received any comments about our SPRING FOR CHARITY event!  Wow… what a let down.  I know Jennifer made a post about blog love (or lack thereof)… maybe everyone is just being really quiet lately.  It doesn’t take much to encourage us… but it is always nice for a little feedback now and then!  :)

Did that sound too whiny?  I’m sorry… but I thought if I paired it with a really beautiful newborn you would forgive me!

Jane — What an adorable baby. Reminds me of Garrett with all the hair. How fun to have a girl with all that hair instead of having to give a haircut at 2 weeks like we did for Garrett.   ( February 27, 2009 @ 1:37 pm )

LaTricia — I love the first picture...the little smile tells it all.   ( February 27, 2009 @ 3:27 pm )

Janalee — I love that you asked for comments! Of course sometimes I'm just to in awe over the photos to even know what to write! :) I mentioned the Spring Charity event to McKay last night! He was still trying to grasp my enthusiam over the baby chick idea! I just trying to decide which kid gets the photo!! Is that the Sat. of Spring break?   ( February 27, 2009 @ 4:46 pm )

Jen — First off, WOW...these photos...LOVE LOVE LOVE THEM!! And that hair? She's got one lucky momma to have that much hair that young. I love that pink scarf on the black background. And blog love? Yeah, what's up with that? Me too, I see the stats and then I get so many fewer comments. I think people are closet readers...but you'd think with my giveaway would motivate them, I guess I need to up the annie...   ( February 28, 2009 @ 12:30 am )

Dianna Kubik — She is absolutely adorable and I love all the photo's. Can't wait to see the rest of the photos.   ( March 1, 2009 @ 12:21 pm )

Donette — This little girl is so precious I can't stand it! The pictures turned out really beautiful! I guess they can't help but be with such beautiful models! I'm jealous of your job - it always seems so fun.   ( March 5, 2009 @ 12:29 pm )

Ritu — Bhavi, She is beautiful!!!!!!!!! WOW!!! The pictures look great! -Ritu   ( March 30, 2009 @ 4:11 pm )

Spring for Charity

I am so excited to finally announce our SPRING FOR CHARITY promotion!  I am so grateful for my good friend (and amazing photographer), Jennifer Garbett with PhotoJenic, for introducing this idea and really working hard on getting this promotion organized.  It should be an incredible day, and the best part is we will make a difference in the lives of valley children!

So… come support our photography event to benefit the CHILD CRISIS CENTER by participating in a mini photo session with our adorable baby chicks.  We have partnered with Little Scholars Academy on 43rd Ave and Bell to host the Spring for Charity Festival.  In addition to your mini photography session, there will be a bounce house, crafts, food, and many activities for kids of all ages.

Please call now to reserve your spot and help us help valley children.  For $75, your 10-minute mini session will include a 12×18 wall portrait and a $50 donation will be made to benefit the Child Crisis Center.

We will also be offering the option to add on spring or Easter cards or gift prints.

We only have 25 spots available, so please call now!  We expect to book up quickly!

623.935.5513 - Jennifer Garbett will be taking all reservations.

Jane — I think this a wonderful idea. I really hope lots of people sign up. Not only will people get great pictures of their kids, they will also be donating to a very special charity. I'll be there with my youngest (can you make a 25 year old look as cute with the chicks as these kids do? :)   ( February 27, 2009 @ 1:42 pm )

Anne — Being the 25 year old in question, I don't know how I feel about a statement like that from my mom! I would like to think she would believe I wouldn't need the chicks to look as cute as these kids. But then again, half of the kids are related to her too. I guess I'll forgive her this time. :) But I definitely want some pictures with the chicks. They are adorable!! I am flying in for this event. It is going to be fantastic. I'm soooo excited!   ( March 2, 2009 @ 11:39 pm )

Donette — How sweet are these pics! It's so springy and lots of fun! Your kids just keep getting cuter by the day! We need to get together with you guys!   ( March 5, 2009 @ 12:26 pm )

Work or TV?

I have a list of things I want to blog about, but I keep getting pulled away by all the great shows right now.  As my nights approach 11pm and my back aches from sitting at the desk for too many hours, I really have a few decisions to make… work on my blog…  or watch one of the many shows hanging out on the DVR - Lost… 24… Life… House… or Grey’s Anatomy…  OK, and we haven’t even started with the reality shows… the AMAZING RACE, American Idol…

BTW, what did we do before DVR?  My kids don’t know how to get up from a show to go to the bathroom without PAUSING it.  They can’t understand why at Nana’s house Diego isn’t on 24/7 and they actually have to WAIT for the air time or why they can’t just REWIND it if they didn’t catch something…. but I digress…

So, why is Jack such a popular name in these shows (I can go back at least 5 years and all of our top favorites have had a JACK)?

And which one is really your favorite?

I really am addicted to them all and probably need some serious help, but actually realized this week how inspirational they are (OK, not the reality shows) to my photography.  I LOVE designing and creating albums and have learned to see scenes horizontally a lot more.  I have talked to a few photographers that only shoot horizontally which seemed a little odd at first, but if you think about it - it really is an interesting way to see the story.  All of our TV shows are shot and formatted for the 16:9 ratio… pretty close to an album pagespread.

I’m starting to drive my husband crazy as we watch these shows and I comment about the cinematography during the scene.  It really is inspirational and amazing to see the way angles, light, depth of field, and shooting through things really helps set a scene.

So, it may just be a big fat JUSTIFICATION, but I am going to sit back and enjoy an episode of LOST and get inspired… and probably a little more LOST.  Really… I can’t be the only one, right?  There IS a point to this show, right?  Not some sick twisted game the creators came up with to suck hours, days out of our lives just to see how long and how many of us stick around?

LaTricia — You are too cute!! I have to admit, I do the same thing. I love what the camera can do to a scene to make it more dramatic....WOW, it really does have everything to do with that talented photographer, not the actors...HA!   ( February 25, 2009 @ 1:40 pm )

Jen — I LOVE THIS!! YOu know, sometimes a person does just need to walk away from the work at 11pm and know that it will all be there the next day!! I have no doubt if I let myself cave I would like ALL of the shows you mentioned above. I'm a reality junky though and I've kept myself from LOST and Grey's and House...cuz I can't afford any more tv time! I think I might buy the seasons in the summer when there is no good tv! But, I do live for the night of Biggest Loser AND American Idol and have a few of those stored up to watch now too. And don't even get me started on the kids stuff...they do have it easy don't they? But then again...we had it easier than our parents on some levels!   ( February 25, 2009 @ 1:51 pm )

Jenni — So, I had to comment. I totally agree. Although I cave sometimes and watch them before computer work. I am busy with my new calling VT coordinator. You can spend hours on it!   ( February 26, 2009 @ 11:11 pm )

Anne — I'm so glad to hear that you watch as much TV as I do! Well, maybe you don't since I know watch while working, but I don't think that really counts. Right? I'm not counting those hours of TV watching at all...   ( March 2, 2009 @ 11:46 pm )

Winter Wedding Slideshow - Rachael and Chase

I almost completely forgot to post this slideshow of Rachael and Chase’s wedding.  I’ve had so many different things going on lately that this slipped through the cracks.  I still want to talk about my amazing time at WPPI, but that will be another post, another day…
