Lauren and Don’s Wedding

Rain, rain, go away… actually, come out and play, but not while we are all stranded in various parts of the Wright House gardens!  (Thanks LaTricia for capturing this… it was very hard to photograph the amount of rain coming down as it was soooo dark there… some of the lights were out, and we were only able to work with the flash we currently had with us… there was no way of setting up off-camera lighting in this windy wet weather!)

This is the wedding of the BEAUTIFUL Lauren and her very lucky husband, Don.  After the amazing bridal sitting where there was not a single bad image of her, we knew that we were going to get some great shots at the wedding.  Well… we did, but then we got a little stranded.  The evening was soooo unusually hot and humid.  (Even for August in Arizona.)  We could see the storm moving in and the smell of rain, but it came down quick and hard as we were getting some family pictures taken after the ceremony.  The gardens were flooded in minutes and we were all stranded under various awnings and patios.  (The wedding was all outdoors!)  Needless to say, Lauren and Don were good sports and in great spirits.  They definitely planned well, as the reception was scheduled for the next night, so no one was TOO worried about getting a LITTLE wet.

Lauren and Don saw each other before the wedding, which was sooo wonderful!  We had a beautiful sunset (always the benefit of monsoon weather), and got some great shots of them before it turned dark and stormy.

Oh, by the way, did I mention that Lauren sings, dances, plays the violin, is smart, and incredibly nice?  Yeah.  She has it all.  I’m probably embarrassing her, but can you tell I’m a bit jealous?!?!?

Jane — You may not be able to sing, dance (sorry - I think you inherited that) and play the violin, but really Marnee - why be jealous- you have so many talents that are uniquely yours! Just look at these great photos! I love the pictures in the rain. What a great couple to not get completely discouraged by the downpour.   ( August 13, 2008 @ 1:47 pm )

Jen — WOW! Seriously that is one great couple most would be crying if that was their wedding day! I am a firm believer that all good things happen with a little (or a lot) of rain! I love the shot of her from behind while he turns to see her...so awesome! They are a very cute couple, good for them to see eachother before the ceremony, now have them SPREAD THE WORD! =)   ( August 15, 2008 @ 2:23 pm )

Fun with the cousins

OK, so I have added a few posts without pictures, and am sooo sorry… So, here is an attempt to make it up!

We had a fun week with Mike’s brother’s family and his parents.  The kids are all exhausted, but loved every minute.  We played hard… swimming, museums, bounce u, d-backs game… more pictures to come, but here are some highlights from our bbq.

This series is of Ryan and his cousin, Joseph.  They just climbed up to the couch and started reading books together.  I love it!

Julee — So fun when cousins get together! Thanks for sharing those cute pictures.   ( August 11, 2008 @ 6:53 am )

Jane — Did you ever think Ryan would be such a reader? I love those pictures. Good competition for the one of him reading Parents Magazine.   ( August 11, 2008 @ 4:04 pm )

Seeing Each Other Before the Ceremony

Here’s another great article from Blue Orchid Designs about seeing each other before the ceremony.

I have stated my opinion about this many times, and will continue to do so whenever I meet with a new couple, but here it goes again…

See each other before the ceremony!  Really.  It truly is the best part of the day.  It is private, it is romantic, and it is all about the two of you.  After the ceremony, you are able to receive congratulations from your family and friends without being whisked away from your photographer.  You are able to enjoy the cocktail hour with your guests, and best of all, you will get to enjoy your party with the invited guests, and not with your photographers.  (Although, we do really enjoy the one on one time with you, and feel pretty special to monopolize such an important hour of your life!)

Dress Etiquette for Wedding Guests

I loved this post from Blue Orchid Designs.  I am surprised at how many people confuse the black/white issue of dress etiquette. There really should only be 1 person wearing white at a wedding, and that is the bride.  I’m actually surprised at how many times I find a guest or two in JEANS at a wedding.  Yes, I know that Arizona in general has a pretty laid back dress code.  Most businesses have casual Fridays, and you rarely see businessmen in full suits.  But, JEANS at a wedding?  I still can’t get used to that.  I’m not a fashion expert, I will leave that to those who claim to be, but I think this is just a respect issue.  Please respect your host.  Don’t wear white and take the attention off the bride, and dress for the occasion!  Click here to read the short article.

Liene at Blue Orchid Designs — I HATE jeans at a wedding! Seriously, I do not get it. And denim skirts? Still no good.   ( August 12, 2008 @ 11:24 am )

Must Have Hues

I just stumbled across this link on the weddex blog and loved to see the new color forecasts.  I have seen some of these colors popping up in weddings, but thought I would share with all of you that haven’t yet decided on wedding colors.  You will definitely have an advantage choosing colors along these lines, as these colors are going to be popping up on all kinds of linens, dresses, stationary, etc.  And they are all rich and beautiful to photograph!  You can download the whole pantone fashion color report fall 2008 here.  These are the HOT colors for fall and beyond!

Jen — Hey there! I'm behind on blog reading but wanted to say I love this! What a great idea to put on your blog for all your new brides! Some of those colors look funky on the page but I am sure could be really cool wedding colors, especially for us photographers! =) Thanks for sharing this!   ( August 12, 2008 @ 6:46 pm )
