Reeces

My poor neglected dog.  She really is a good dog.  And there really was a time when she was EVERYTHING to us.  We worried if we were going to be gone too long and didn’t want to leave her alone.  (Now we say, if we leave out enough food and water, she’ll be fine this week while we are out of town, right?  She has a doggie door.)  She stands patiently by the pantry door sometimes for hours (maybe days, I’m not sure) for her food or water to be refilled.  She has been kicked out of our bed, and even gets pushed aside at the end of the day when I just want to sit on the couch and not be touched!  Well, today she was really wanting some attention… kept rubbing up against me, sitting on my lap.  I started to pet her and had handfuls of hair come out.  She really is low-maintenance.  We really don’t have to brush or groom her much, but, it is sad to say it has been WEEKS since this poor little girl has had a bath… you know, a real bath, not just the kind she gets from the boys chasing her with the hose.  Well, I am starting to feel a little bad.  But then, she quickly reminds me why she has moved down the totem pole.  Just as I got the baby to sleep, someone comes to the door and she barks like crazy and wakes her up!  This is a daily occurrence that leads to so much frustration.  The boys and Kate just love her though.  She can keep them entertained for hours playing chase and catch.  She lets Kate just pinch and pull her ears and legs.  She lets the boys chase her with their dump trucks and drag her around on the leash all over the house and backyard.  And, she always lifts up that one ear and wags her little tail whenever I walk into the room.  I suppose its time that she gets a little more love and attention from me and not just the love and torture from the kids.  But, that love sure slips away quickly when she wakes up one of the kids with her constant yapping!  Or barks like crazy when I have a client come over!  (So, so annoying to everyone.)  If anyone has any cures, PLEASE let me know!  As for now, I’m going to go sit on the couch… catch up on some TV and snuggle with this Little Reeces Pieces.

My little girl

I have been spending quite a bit of time re-working some business stuff these last few weeks.  You know, the fun filing, organizing, updating marketing, contracts, etc. etc. etc.  I wish I could say I was almost done, but the more I do, the more I realize I HAVE SO MUCH MORE TO DO!  I really am an organized person, but I just haven’t quite found the best system for every little detail of this business and it is driving me crazy.  Plus the fact that I get so distracted by my kids and fun photography projects that this kind of thing is constantly making the bottom of the priority list.

So, here is my distraction tonight.  She is learning to walk, learning how to manipulate us by making us laugh like crazy, and growing up way too quickly.  But, she still is my angel and constantly brings a smile to my face.

Becca & Jake’s Guest Book

This is probably one of my favorite products.  I love the guest book.  I just celebrated 9 years of marriage and have probably been to over 300 weddings since then.  I have seen sooo many great ideas and amazing weddings, but really have never thought, “oh, I should have done that”… until we started these guests books a few years back.  9 years really does start to date me, but here’s where it gets bad… I had one of those long, cascading bouquets, an all white cake, and yes, one of those AWFUL white guest books (it probably had a love bird or two intertwining hearts or something equally as cheesy on it).  I dutifully assigned a guest book attendant to make sure every guest signed their name on the line provided (yet, somehow we had 30% more people eat the provided dinners than signed their name).  And now, I have this incredibly tacky book sitting in a box someplace in my garage or closet.  It has been through 3 moves collecting dust, but I just can’t quit toss it because there is some unwritten rule about hanging on to those type of things, right?

Anyway, this is why I LOVE THE PHOTO GUEST BOOK.  They are so individual… so beautiful, and guess what!?!??!  Not only are they fun to keep for years and years and years (so you can one day look back and see how happy, young, and beautifully in love you were), but your guests LOVE seeing the guest book at the wedding.  People don’t want to pass it up, and will make a point to come by later in the evening to leave you a note.  YES, a note… not just their autograph on the little gray line.

Well, I just finished Becca and Jacob’s guest book.  Their wedding is a short 4 weeks away, but we just got together last week for these engagement photos.  We really  had to hurry on this one, but I think it turned out great and really captures their fun personalities, and tone of the wedding.

This is a long post with lots of pics, so enjoy!  I just couldn’t decide how to only post PART of a book!

Anne — This is fantastic! One of my friends was looking at your site and has told me multiple times since that she thinks you are one of the best photographers she has ever seen! She said its a good thing she's not close to getting married because she wants to start saving up now to be able to afford to fly you out to wherever she ends up getting married.   ( July 15, 2008 @ 8:55 am )

Jane — Beautiful book. I agree -- much better than your guest book. What were we thinking. I guess when you don't know any better, you just get caught up in the traditional. That's why you are so good now - you can steer brides away from some of the mundane "traditional" things and create something for them that they will cherish for years - and not just "store in a box in the garage."   ( July 15, 2008 @ 12:03 pm )

Lindsay Klinck — My husband & I got married last April and we were lucky enough to have Marnee as our photographer! Not only does she take the most beautiful pictures, but she truly captures the moment! I remember the 1st time we met Marnee and were discussing whether or not we would have engagement pictures taken. Initially, I didn't think I wanted to have them taken, but the moment she explained that our engagement photos would be used to make-up our guest book I was pretty quick to change my mind! Not only did our engagement pictures turn out beautiful, but when the time came for us to put together our guest book we were able to personalize this and make it our own! Not to mention, I've had so many people comment on how awesome they thought our guest book was! Thanks Marnee for not only capturing our sacred moments, but for also adding these personal touches that we will have with us forever! - Lindsay :-)   ( July 16, 2008 @ 11:57 am )

Mandy — This book turned out amazing! It's absolutely beautiful and it definitely makes me think sadly of my old ratty guest book. What were we thinking. If only! That's one of the many reasons why I always enjoy going to weddings with you. It's a chance to see all the newest and great ideas that brides are doing now. You definitely put together an amazing product that couples can enjoy throughout their lifetime.   ( July 17, 2008 @ 11:22 am )

I Need Models!

I am in the process of updating some marketing materials and getting ready to gear up for the busy season… weddings, family pics, babies, etc.  I am looking for some models who are willing to brave this heat and have some fun.

These shoots will be scheduled in mid-August - both early morning and late afternoon times.  We will choose the location and provide you with guidelines on what to wear and expect.

We are looking for:

1. High School Senior - someone who is lots of fun, energetic, and willing to be creative with us.

2. A small family with 1 or 2 EASY-GOING kids (preferably 3-6 years old).

3. An engaged couple, or a couple in LOVE that wouldn’t mind kissing, holding hands, and pretending that they like each other!

4. A couple that will dress up in wedding attire and help us get some GREAT, funky, and NON-TRADITIONAL wedding images.

5.  A family with teenage kids.  COOPERATIVE teenage kids.

6.  Newborn.  Very new.  Like, less than 2 weeks old at the time of the shoot.  (This will be done indoors.)

So, PLEASE, if you are interested, or know of anyone that is interested, please leave a comment or shoot me an email.  I will be making final selections and setting dates by July 25.

Please note… the purpose of these shoots is for our own marketing.  We will post these images online and you will have the option to order any image you like.  You will also receive a print of our choosing as a thank you.  However, we will not promise our normal speedy turn-around times for proofing or ordering.  We will be fitting these editing jobs in to our regular workflow and get them done as quickly as we can.  We also will not be able to add any special requests during the actual shoot.  We would be more than happy to schedule a “client” appointment with you to take care of the shots you want.

Mandy — Did you want Kelly and I for the shoot of the couple "madly in love!" I am sure he would be super fun about it and not complain at all. Maybe you would prefer Grace for the really cooperative "easy going" kids shoot. Totally kidding .... obviously!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) Just trying to help. :) If you provided the wedding dress, I would make Kelly do that shoot with me. I never liked our wedding pictures. However, I don't think we could pass for that kind of couple anymore. It's just not the same. Those days are long gone. Plus we are not photogenic in the least bit. Oh well. Good luck with this. It sounds like lots of fun and we can't wait to see the new marketing stuff. :)   ( July 10, 2008 @ 8:44 pm )

Kelley — "A couple that will dress up in wedding attire and help us get some GREAT, funky, and NON-TRADITIONAL wedding images". I think John and I can provide some of that for you at our wedding...I mean how many brides and grooms want you to shoot photos of them loading shells into mortars for their fireworks show and how many couples are married by a wizard :) We would gladly provide you with some non-traditonal wedding images for our very non-traditional wedding :)   ( July 11, 2008 @ 1:34 am )

Jen — What a GREAT idea! I hope you get some great models and some different stuff! I hadn't thought to get models for my new marketing pieces but I can already tell I am going to be jealous that you are going to complete this task before me...again =) If I can think of anyone to send your way, I will let you know!! Good luck.   ( July 11, 2008 @ 11:17 am )

Bill & LaTricia Soucy — Hey there, Karen said she would be interested in you taking pictures of her newborn. It would be perfect timing for you considering her due date in August 10th. So please keep her in mind. LaTricia   ( July 13, 2008 @ 4:39 pm )

Holly — We are very interested!   ( July 15, 2008 @ 12:17 am )

Corissa — We would love to help you! Your photos are AMAZING! We just got engaged!! and I love to kiss him! LOL! -Corissa   ( July 21, 2008 @ 11:55 am )

Lisa Parsons — Hey Marnee! I just saw this on your site about you needing models. If you are still in need of a couple to dress up on wedding attire and do some funky shots - Cory and I would love to help you out! (o: I know this is a little late and you may have your schedule together, but thought I'd let you know just in case!   ( August 6, 2008 @ 1:09 am )

Happy 4th of July!

I love this holiday!  Although it has been several years since I have really seen fireworks, which used to be my FAVORITE.  I think my favorite part of this holiday is spending the whole day with family and friends, swimming, eating, and enjoying all the freedoms we are so blessed with in this country.

The great thing about AZ is you can have parties all summer long - as long as they are pool parties.  You never have to worry about bugs, rain, or wind.  You just plan on it being HOT and plan on swimming and it is all good.  UNLESS, you have an early monsoon that just happens to roll through your party 30 minutes before the DIVE in movie begins.  (no, that was not a mistype, a DIVE in movie for all you non-AZ swimmers is a movie projected on a large screen and enjoyed while floating in the pool… yes, there are advantages to evening temps of 105 degrees!

Needless to say, when a monsoon comes, you move inside.  This is not your light sprinkle.  This is 2 inches of rain in 45 minutes… winds that take down large branches and trees, and lightning that lights up the whole skyline.  It is beautiful, amazing, and powerful.  The kids thought it was almost as fun as the movie.  I wish I had my camera, but somehow it got buried in piles of inflatable rafts, food, towels, clothes, and toys that were rushed inside.

We did have a blast, though, and enjoyed the company of some friends, and family.  Thanks to my parents for letting us use their “way more fun” pool and house!

Here’s as good as it is going to get… too hot to sit that close together for any period of time.

Thanks Grace and Jackson!  We love your interpretation of “HAPPY 4th!”  Hope you enjoyed the party past the initial photo stages.

Thanks Mom and Dad for having us all over to your house… we all had a blast!  And thanks, Dad, for mixing up some of your tasty concoctions for us to enjoy!  (Soooo many pool floats - there were kids in there someplace, right?!?!?)

The waterfall and the swim up bar are two of the features that make Nema & Hepa’s house sooo fun.  (Besides the HUGE backyard… something you don’t find at most of the houses up here.)  The boys can spend all day climbing up the waterfall and jumping off.  I think this next series is sooo funny… why is it OK for Mike to teach Ryan how to push him off the waterfall, but as soon as Parker tries to push Ryan off, he gets yelled at instead of the laughs Ryan got?!?!?

If these two didn’t look so much alike, I would wonder who this kids’ father was.  We have no idea where he gets his coloring from, but he is soooo dark.  That is after generous applications of 50+ sunscreen!  He looks like a little oreo cookie when the swimsuit comes off.

Here’s our good friend, Jackson… with his best friend, GOGGLES!  That kid loves his goggles!

Parker and Riley are trying to get Riley’s daughter, Madison SOAKED!

And the great finish to a wonderful day… the dive in movie got moved into the media room.  I glanced in to see if the kids were doing OK, and saw Grace and Ryan snuggled up on the couch.  I don’t know if it was a scary part of the movie, but I love how she is ever so slightly touching his hand!  Guess we have our own fireworks going on this 4th of July!

Jen — Serously looks SOOOOOOOOOOOO fun! Sorry we missed it, thanks so much for the invite! We enjoyed 25+ people in a small condo with temps peaking at 85degrees cuz it wouldn't cool down with all of us! =) Oh well, we did have good food and time with family, I suppose that's what's most important! Jane I LOVE your pool! My kids would seriously go crazy to jump off that waterfall all day!   ( July 8, 2008 @ 11:52 am )

Anne — And this is why it never quite feels like 4th of July out here in DC (ironic, huh?). NO ONE has pool parties! I think they missed the memo that 4th of July = pool party. I'm sad I missed it - especially the monsoon!   ( July 8, 2008 @ 3:01 pm )

Mandy — Thanks again for the great 4th of July! I swear my kids had a great time, even though they really don't look like it. Classic though! :) I really want that picture of Jackson jumping off the waterfall. Gotta love those goggles. I think Kelly might have had something to say about Ryan and Grace's little fireworks display. Probably a good thing he didn't know about it. Too cute though. Dating was always so much fun!   ( July 9, 2008 @ 12:21 am )

Jane — Thanks Marnee and Mike for having friends that like to have fun. 4th of July definitely would not be as much fun without kids in the pool. Really, what better display of fireworks could we have had than nature's own (monsoons)! We'll have to attempt the dive in movie again soon. - Jen, you and your family will have to be sure and come. Anyone else interested?   ( July 9, 2008 @ 11:55 am )

Lindsay Klinck — Wow...those family pics are great! Brian and I can't wait to start having kids so we can have you take pictures of them!! I especially like the last picture of Ryan & Grace - looks like a love connection could be brewing! Good to hear that you and your family had a great Fourth! Take care...Lindsay   ( July 10, 2008 @ 3:21 pm )
