Little Alex

He has won the award for he best newborn model of all times!  This little guy was so alert and happy for so long!  We kept thinking he was going to go to sleep so we could get some of the “typical” newborn pics, but he obviously was having too much.

Congrats again Jessica and Hani!  It was so great to meet your new little addition and catch up with you guys.  By the way… happy late anniversary!  Alex was born a week early (did I get that right?) of their 2 year anniversary.  I was lucky to be able to photograph that event as well.  It’s always fun to see families grow…

Just Hanging Out

I love the fact that as soon as I put Kate in the pack ‘n play to keep her safe from the boys and their toys, that they want to jump in and join her.  She LOVES the company and only the boys can get her into a full, all-out belly laugh.

I also love the fact that Parker knows how to work the remote better than anyone in the house… and has learned how to read by watching so much TV and figuring out the DVR list of his favorite recorded shows.  He has also learned that sugar is bad for you and you should eat healthy (and my coke every day is not a good healthy choice), he has learned to recognize classical music that plays in the background of commercials or other movies/shows from many hours of watching baby einstein and little Einstein’s ”Mom that’s Beethoven’s 5th like in Little Einstein’s”, and that he has learned Spanish from Diego.  I sure wish to claim that I have been a great teacher, but at least I can admit that maybe TV isn’t so bad after all…  especially when he now has learned how to turn it on and pick out one of his shows in the morning and I get 30 more minutes in bed before the fighting begins…

And finally, I love the fact that I finally figured out why we have such a hard time with Ryan and sleeping.  I caught him STUDYING this magazine yesterday.  He was so intent on “reading” it.  I seriously think it was the longest time he has ever held still.  I had enough time to go grab my camera and take several shots of him before he even looked up!  It wasn’t until I downloaded these pictures that I realized what he must have been reading… look closely… BABY WON’T SLEEP.  He’s on to us!  He’s getting a head start on all of the parenting secrets so he knows what we will try.  Dang it!  He’s one step ahead.  But, now we are on to him! There will be no more parenting magazines or books anywhere in sight.  He no longer will have the advantage.  We will conquer!

Jen — HILARIOUS that he was reading that magazine! Good job Parker for reminding us working from home mommies that TV can be good =) I know my boys are learning from it! Cute pics of Kate...make sure you get video of them making her crack up, those are some of my FAVORITE videos of my kids.   ( May 28, 2008 @ 11:41 am )

Jane — LOVE the picture of Ryan. Maybe you just need to give him a magazine to read in bed. I think he might be the first child ever to learn to read before he learns to talk (at least in a way we can all understand!)   ( May 28, 2008 @ 11:50 am )

Mandy — I definitely think you are going to have to step up your game with Ryan or else he will be one step ahead of you every time. Now you just need to find the right reading material that will benefit you instead of him learning the secrets. :) Do you think I could borrow Parker so that he can teach me how to use our remote ... or at least Grace.   ( May 29, 2008 @ 11:00 pm )

catlady — I think you need to give Ryan a book that will make him sleepy. And TV isn't making Parker smart - he was born brilliant - just ask his Aunt! She'll tell you!   ( June 23, 2008 @ 6:06 pm )

Happy Anniversary Danielle and Dave!

I was spending a wonderful May evening at the Sanctuary Resort last year with Danielle and Dave.  Everything was just beautiful for this intimate destination wedding to Paradise Valley, AZ.  Most friends and family flew in from Canada.  Here’s wishing you all the best!

Jen — How do you keep track...I am lucky to remember my own anniversary much less my clients =) LOVE that first shot, AWESOME!   ( May 27, 2008 @ 12:47 pm )

You know you’re tired when…

… you have three kids 4 and under…

I know I could just stop there.  I can almost hear the “oh yeah” sigh from all of you… but just wait.

It all started with the 50 degree drop in weather these last two days.  I can’t believe on Tuesday we are melting in 109 degree heat and today, we are digging through our closets for thick winter coats.  (OK… I know it is only 59 degrees, but seriously, we have to get some use out of these cute winter things we always end up buying and NEVER needing in AZ.)

I was up at 5 with Kate just HOPING she would go back to sleep, but finally around 6, just gave up and decided to enjoy the few minutes of quiet before the boys got up.

I took this opportunity to make myself a HOT CHOCOLATE (you know, the justifiable way to count CHOCOLATE as a breakfast food).  I fed Kate, got settled into my office chair to start some editing, and starting thinking about how great the weather was going to be today.  Courtland and Steve are getting married tomorrow, and we have the rehearsal this afternoon.  I couldn’t think of better (and so unexpected) weather for a MAY wedding!  We definitely will take advantage of being outdoors today!

In the background, I start to hear the drops of rain.  LOVE THIS!  (Since we only get a handful of rainy days in AZ, it is so fun when we do!)  Kate starts to fuss… so I take care of her… come back, plug in all my camera gear for the shoot today… and now start to hear the rain really coming down.  Our front porch is all tiled and the rain gutters land right on the entry .  It is really coming down hard now!  But, I look out my office window and can’t see any rain… I walk to the family room to see the pool… no drops in the pool.  WHY IS WATER POUNDING OUT OF THE RAIN GUTTER ON THE FRONT PORCH?  As I walk to the front door and slip on a big puddle of water, I realize that the laundry room sink is overflowing with water… water that has filled the laundry room, rushed down the front hall, and filled about 1 inch of water into the guest bath!

Yes.  That was me.  I turned the water on to soak some clothes this morning and obviously did not get it turned all the way off!

I would  show you a picture of my flood, but it absolutely grossed me out to see all of the lint, dirt, and “things” that washed up from under the washer and dryer.  I swear we clean, but really, who cleans under these things?  (And if you really do, please don’t tell me.  Let me believe I’m not the only one.)  But if you do, I did find an easy way to clean it out - no moving heavy appliances!

Jane — What a morning! Any you wonder where Ryan gets the urge to play in the water and flood the house!   ( May 23, 2008 @ 3:01 pm )

Jen — ALL before 7AM? What the heck. If I were you, I'd go back to bed!! I am loving the weather, seems unreal that we'll go from this and jump back into 100+ like that. I am so mad I didn't schedule shoots today!   ( May 23, 2008 @ 3:31 pm )

Rochelle, Christine's friend — Just had to say that was an adorable story. I can't believe your laundry room flooded. That so sounds like something I would so. Hope it wasn't damaging. I was SOOO embarrassed when I replaced my laundry room floor this year and they had to move my washer and dryer. It was BAD!! And we had only lived in this house a year. UGH!!!   ( June 5, 2008 @ 11:06 pm )

catlady — I love this picture - Kate looks like she is having a blast - the flooding was a diaster to you, but BIG fun for her!   ( June 23, 2008 @ 5:57 pm )

Grace and Jackson

Here are the other two kids that we spent the week in California with!  Mandy and Kelly (their parents) have been good friends of ours since pre-kids days.  My how our vacations have changed over the last 5 years now traveling around with 5 kids in tow!  Mandy has assisted me with several weddings over the years and has quite a good eye for photography.  She photographed our family at the beach and I got a few shots of hers and the kids.  I must say, I love the white at the beach on the overcast days that we had.  The color-tone is just beautiful.  I thought I would love our bright blue, but without the sun… we just didn’t get quite the same effect.  Maybe next year.  Thanks again Mandy for all your help and for a great week!  Your kids are beautiful! These are just priceless.

I love those images above… the best part, is they turned out so dang cute, and NO ONE (except the few of us on the beach) know how hard Grace is crying at that moment.  She did not like the sand and waves at all!  It was pure torture… but look at the memory we re-created!  :)

By the end of the week, she was LOVING the beach.  Either that or she just decided that we weren’t going to give up and she might as well start enjoying it!  :)

Mandy — These turned out great! I love that you can't tell she is screaming her head off and so angry with me for subjecting her to this "torture." I will definitely have to get these ones hung up around the house.   ( May 22, 2008 @ 1:26 am )

Anne — Beautiful! I can't believe how grown up the kids are!   ( May 22, 2008 @ 6:04 pm )

Jen — Love these...cute ones of Grace and Mandy for sure! Love shots when kids are crying and no one knows =)   ( May 22, 2008 @ 11:10 pm )
